"Do away with enmities" means to release your deep-seated hatred. Deep hatred is consuming. That way leads to the dark side!

I think we can all agree that Darth Vader is awesome. But, if you think about it, Darth Vader did not let himself be consumed by deep-seated anger and hate. He kept calm and used logic to try to persuade Luke to join the Dark Side. If he had acted in enmity, he would have killed Luke on sight for "killing" Padme.
