Connecticut Is Open on Saturdays
During the last week of December 2009, I found that Connecticut is closed of Mondays. Itching for another road trip, we went back this past Saturday. We wanted a burger, and we were going to get one 1.5 - 2 hours away at Louis' Lunch.
Louis' Lunch is the birthplace of the hamburger sandwich in 1900 (source). The entire building is the size of one large room. You order at the counter, wait for your burger, eat, then leave. No frills are necessary; the burger speaks for itself.
You can get a burger with cheese, tomato, and onion. Ketchup is not an option, although I never use that anyway. Even the T-shirts have a "no ketchup" symbol on them. Potato salad or potato chips are also an option. The potato salad is one of the best I've ever had.
The burger itself is put on toast rather than a bun. It tastes great. After ordering, there was a one hour wait before our burgers were done. They're worth it. If I lived in the area, I could see myself giving Louis' Lunch my money often.
